Skin care for kids – a guide on (anti-)children’s ingredients.

Considering a series of children’s skin care products, start from sorting out what ingredients are actually good for younger customers, and what elements are better to avoid.Kids’ skin works as barrier against environmental damage, a temperature regulator and sweat drainer and a conductor of a whole lot of new information received through touching. Compared to adults’, children’s skin is significantly thinner and requires extra delicacy and more subtle cosmetic formulas to provide proper care – from the very first day of life.We’re observing a rapidly growing number of ingredient-aware parents studying thoroughly every label before purchasing care products. They no more in brands’ bare promises, that’s why it’s nowadays so crucial to supply the market with clearly described and understandable formulas. Since once the trust is wasted, it will never be back again.Why children are so sensitive to cosmeticsToddlers’ hydrolipidic mantle is yet too immature to provide full protection, so the skin is extremely vulnerable to every element it gets in contact with. Strong preservatives, artificial colorants or flavoring immediately trigger skin irritations and allergic symptoms.Here’s a list of ingredients safe for the youngest consumers, and those that should never touch the formula.Safe substances for young kids
- Allantoin – for soothing and recovering action Panthenol - for regeneration
- Natural oils, best if from organic farms
- Bio oils: linen, hemp, sunflower, soy, Oenothera seed, Borago – for proper moisturization and natural protection resupply
- Herbal essences: Licorice roots, Euphrasia, Plantago, Calendula or Chamomile – for anti-inflammatory action
- Extracts: azulene (Chamomile, Achillea) with its hypoallergic properties; alpha-bisabolol (Chamomile) with its soothing action.
- UV filters – physical mineral filters: titan dioxide, zinc oxide, that don’t get absorber by the skin but instead leave a thin protective film that reflects solar radiation.
Substances to avoid
- Acids, especially boric and salicylic.
- Artificial colorants and intense flavourings.
- SLS and SLES – strong synthetic detergents.
- Strong parabens – a.k.a. preservatives.
- Softening silicones that cause skin dehydration.
- Formalin derivatives, that interact with other ingredients.
- Chemical filters for sunscreens, that inpour deeply into the skin.
- Petrochemicals: Vaseline, paraffin or vaseline oil.
- PEG and PPG.
- Aluminum salts.
Less is mor is the best rule for children’s formulas. To stay fair with our youngest customers, stick to the creed, that kids’ health is above everything.
